And life just keeps getting in the way…

2009/03/28

That pesky thing called life always seems to interfere with any kind of me time. But while I have a few minutes to myself I thought it might be time to update this little corner of my world.

Epic Cake WIN!

Epic Cake WIN!

Just barely more than a year ago, two of my good friends decided that ten plus years of living together was long enough to run the risk of getting married, and so they did. March 13, 2008 marked the big day. On March 13, 2009 they celebrated a year of wedded bliss by having a wedding party for their friends and family. It was absolutely beautiful. And I was thrilled to have been even a small part of the whole experience.  I wish a long and wonderful life together for the two of them.

The other thing monopolizing so much of time recently has been the 47th Annual Denver St. Patrick’s Day Parade and the entry I helped to coordinate for the Wings Over The Rockies Air & Space Museum, involving the Rocky Mountain FanForce, the Mountain Garrison of the 501st Legion, the Mountain Base of the Rebel Legion, and the Forney Transportation Museum. This was a HUGE undertaking and involved many months of work to make it all come together so seamlessly that no one had a clue just what it took to make it happen.

Seventy people, three fan groups, two museums, three corporate entities, two trucks, two trailers, one two ton piece of cinematic history and the rest of my sanity for a very long time. When it was all said and done…it was amazing! And apparently it did not go unnoticed. Not only did we receive praise and thanks from the other participants, requests for other appearances, and the cheers of the crowds, as well as the smiling faces of parents and children all along the parade route, but it would seem we also picked up an award. We still don’t know what that award is, but after a luncheon next weekend I hope to have very good news about it.

It just goes to show… Growing old might be inevitable, but growing up doesn’t have to be. Even if it does take a lot of work to make things happen, I really love working within this community. And every bit of blood, sweat and tears shed in the name of it is worth it, just to make one kid smile.
